Moot Hall, Keswick |

this building dates back to 1813 on an earlier 16th Century site. On Saturdays a market is held around the Moot Hall. |

Gentle Walking |
Gentler and more relaxing days out can be enjoyed by walking to the top
of Latrigg (367m); Catbells (445m) or by taking in the views from Friars
Crag and Castlehead. There is no end to beautiful walks near Keswick. The image to the left is the view of Keswick and Derwentwater from Latrigg. A popular walk because Latrigg is easily the top 'best view for least effort' fell in the Lake District. |
Lake Derwentwater |
Derwentwater is three miles long and stretches down into the valley of Borrowdale. Good footpaths circuit the Lake at high and low level, making it superb for a gentle but long day out walking with fantastic views everywhere you turn! Taking care during rainy periods as the paths are very likely to flood! |
Theatre by the Lake |
One of the most beautifully located theatres in all of England, just a few hundred yards from Derwentwater. The Theatre by the Lake is a superb modern building providing a service through performing arts to the local community and visitors alike. A year-round professional drama production, it provides a variety of entertainment to suit all tastes. |
Keswick Museum & Art Gallery |
A local Victorian Museum revealing Keswick's surprising past, including its many 'firsts' and its famous residents. The 1897 purpose built museum is set in beautiful Fitz Park and has retained its original Victorian feel. Fitz Park not only has beautiful gardens and walks along the River Greta which runs directly through it, but also tennis courts, golf putting, a bowls area, a large children's playground and if your lucky, you may even catch a cricket game there too! |
Cumberland Pencil Museum |
The history of pencil making in Cumbria, which will be of interest to everyone. Enter the museum through a replica of the Seathwaite mine where graphite was first discovered 350 years ago. |
Castlerigg Stone Circle |
One mile east of Keswick in the English Lake District, this is a hilltop stone circle thought to be four thousand years old. Castlerigg Stone Circle is one of the most visually impressive prehistoric monuments in Britain and is the most visited stone circle in Cumbria. |
Derwentwater Marina |
The Marina is an ideal location for your water or mountain based
activities in and around Keswick, or for simply relaxing amid the
beautiful scenery of the Borrowdale Valley. Enjoy activities such as sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayak, ghyll scrambling, climbing, abseiling and hill walking; or just enjoy a trip on the Keswick boat launch. |
Honister Slate Mine |
At Honister, not only are there beautiful views to be had as you make
your way through Honister Pass, but also a 400 million year old slate
mine with a fully guided tour. The tour into the mine itself is available several times a day, detailing its history and spectacular features. |
Fell Walking |
There is plenty of fell walking to be had around Keswick. Fell such as
Skiddaw (931m), Helvellyn (949m), Scafell (964m), Scafell Pike (977m),
Great Gable (899m) and dozens of other fells are all within easy reach
for a great day of walking or climbing. The image left of Helvellyn shows the Red Tarn and the 'infamous' Striding Edge. Be warned, only experienced walkers should attempt the walk along Striding Edge. |
